Clients typically pay for their immigration medical examination and any subsequent tests needed to complete the medical examination. However, the world health organisation(WHO'S)
position of TB management is that it is affordable. The End TB Strategy aims for zero per cent of people suffering catastrophic costs, and more targeted investigation of TB following primary screening. it is therefour recommended that panel physicinas utilise a ''global fee'' system in which
anticipated sputum testing and TB treatment costs are spread across the full applicant pool so that individual applicants are not charged separately for these costs. this encourages
applicants needing sputum evalution for TB to complete this evalution and inceress the chances that they will complete treatement(especially treatment coordinated by the panel physician programmes), thereby minimising the risk of further transmission and development of drug resistance.panel physicians
will be monitored closely to ensure that all those requiring further investigation as outlined latre in this document do so.

UK
Applicants for UK:
-
The present medical requirement comprises of a ‘pre-departure’ tuberculosis (TB)
screening.
- Please read instructions (2) through (5) as for visa applicants for Canada.
- X-Ray chest is required for clients aged 11 years and above.
- Please read instruction/ FAQ (7)(d) of visa medicals for Canada.
-
The consent form for applicants for the U.K. is different which invariably has to
be signed prior to the radiological examination.
- For applicants below age of 11 years, a medical assessment will be done. In case of a past treatment for TB, or close contact with a known person suffering from TB, an X-Ray chest may be requested.
- If the X-Ray chest is reported abnormal (which is consistent with TB), the client will have to undergo sputum testing for TB (at a designated centre). The results of the same will take 8-10 weeks.
- If X-Ray chest is normal (and for clients less than 11 years, the health assessment is normal), the pre-departure TB screening certificate will be issued usually after 24 hours. Likewise, for clients undergoing sputum tests for TB, the certificate will be issued only after the sputum tests are received and reported negative for TB.
- For pregnant women who do NOT wish to undergo X-Ray chest, they will need to proceed for sputum testing for TB directly.
- At the time of collecting the ‘pre-departure TB screening certificate’, clients are strongly advised to check the accuracy of the contents (including mis-spelling etc) and immediately bring it to the attention of the clinic staff for changes/ correction if necessary.
- If at a later date, there is a need for change in address at the UK (or) visa category, a fresh certificate will be issued with a nominal administrative charge.
- The certificate is usually valid for 6 months in most instances, from the date of issue.
